New Gallery Space Opens 19 December Ahead of Major Reopening in February
Newcastle Art Gallery will unveil its fourth new exhibition space on 19 December, building on the excitement generated by the three new galleries already open. The new space will feature more than 130 works from some of Australia’s most significant artists, including Joseph Lycett, William Dobell, Grace Cossington Smith and Margaret Preston, with the collection valued at over $30 million.
To celebrate the unveiling, the Gallery will host a special Friday Night Sounds after-hours event from 5pm–8pm, featuring live music by Newcastle singer-songwriter Nina Romeru and a wildlife drawing workshop with local artists.
The Gallery is currently open Friday to Sunday, 10am–4pm, inviting the community to experience these first four completed spaces ahead of the full reopening.
The fully expanded Newcastle Art Gallery will reopen in February, accompanied by a major collection exhibition and the unveiling of a new commission by internationally renowned artist Fayen d’Evie.
