Long-time advocates and supporters of Newcastle Art Gallery, Robert and Lindy Henderson, have pledged to match the Margaret Olley Art Trust’s gift of $500,000 toward the Gallery expansion. A very big thank you for this generous contribution to the future of our city and its Gallery.
Robert is a former Chair of the Foundation and together with Lindy has actively championed the value of the visual arts by supporting artists and the Gallery’s collection, with donations through the Foundation towards acquisitions.
Robert and Lindy said “the expansion of Newcastle Art Gallery is an important one-off opportunity, 45 years in the making since the completion of the current building, to at last realise the vision of the Gallery space. It befits the City’s significant collection and brings ample opportunities for special exhibitions. This expansion will finally ensure the Gallery its rightful place among Australia’s major art institutions”.
The Foundation looks forward to the grand opening of the expanded Gallery, which will feature The Henderson Room, a space for meetings and a home for Foundation and Newcastle Art Gallery Society members.
