As the doors open to the reimagined Newcastle Art Gallery, we celebrate the generosity of one of Australia’s most beloved artists, Margaret Olley AC. Gallery Director Lauretta Morton OAM, and Foundation Chair, Suzie Galwey were honoured to celebrate a first look at the new Margaret Olley Gallery with Christine France, Margaret’s close friend and Trustee of the Margaret Olley Art Trust.
During her lifetime, Olley donated 48 works of art to the Gallery’s collection. Her legacy and enduring connection to Newcastle continues with the Margaret Olley Art Trust contributing $500,000 towards the Gallery’s expansion project, helping bring this exciting new chapter to life.
Olley’s generosity reminds us that philanthropy, whether through art or financial gifts, has the power to nurture creativity and ensure that future generations have access to the joy of art.
