As we celebrate the “First Look” at our reimagined Newcastle Art Gallery, we reflect on the incredible power of philanthropy to transform our city’s cultural future.
The Valerie and John Ryan Bequest helped shape this remarkable project. Valerie Ryan gifted the residue of her estate equally between the Newcastle Art Gallery Foundation and the Hunter Medical Research Institute.
This remarkable act of generosity has left a profound legacy. Valerie and John’s vision will enrich the Gallery, inspire creativity, and ensure that future generations have access to art that connects, challenges and uplifts.
Their gift reminds us all that philanthropy is not just about giving — it’s about leaving a lasting legacy that transforms a community.
While Valerie and John are no longer with us, we were fortunate to share the celebrations with their nieces Yvonne and Debra.
