Type C print on paper
118.2 x 148.8cm

Purchased in memory of Warwick Smithson with funds from the Smithson family 2010. Newcastle Art Gallery collection

Stacey is one of Australia’s foremost photographers and has been an established voice in the medium since the 1980s. Bombe is part of a series from 2009 that continues the artist’s fascination with Dutch painting, still life and the accoutrements in historical settings such as museums and historic houses such as flowers, fruit and domestic settings.

Her highly stylized photographs evoke classical paintings on the past and through use of light and dramatic chiaroscuro effects, evoke a highly painterly effect to digital photography.
