Valerie gifted the residue of her estate, with an estimated value of $20million, equally to the Foundation and the Hunter Medical Research Institute. The Valerie and John Ryan Bequest is thought to be the largest Bequest in Hunter history.
Friends, family and supporters of HMRI and the Foundation enjoyed drinks and canapes while being serenaded by pianist Terence Koo on the Gallery’s Stuart and Sons Piano which Valerie contributed towards commissioning. Other major acquisitions she supported during her lifetime were also on display for guests to enjoy.
Val’s niece Megan McManus, Gallery Director, Lauretta Morton, HMRI Chair Kyle Loades and former Foundation Chair and Val’s friend, Judy Hart, spoke of Val’s love of life and what this ‘game changing’ gift means to art and science in the Hunter region.
